Born in 1957, Daniel Joseph Martinez is a post-tactical media practitioner and internationally renowned artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. Using forms of strategic engagement, Martinez employs mutation and schizophrenia as a structure for confusion directed toward the precondition of a coexistence of the trans-political as radical beauty. Ongoing themes in his work are contamination, history, nomadic power, cultural resistance, dissidence, and systems of symbolic exchange. He is a professor in the graduate studies at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine.
