For the past two years Chris Wyllie has been marrying classic iconography with a variety of found objects, painting the various designs and characters on everything from old refrigerator doors to rusty mufflers to truck tailgates. He employs the subtle use of line and color mixed seamlessly with the natural patina of the chosen object. Wyllie’s command of the medium harnesses energy reminiscent of the best of the past yet anchored firmly in the moment and experience of the viewer. His work is currently part of the 2008 Newport Annual Members’ Juried Exhibition at the Newport Art Museum and Art Association in Rhode Island.
