Chris Dorland was born in 1978 in Montreal and currently lives and works in New York City. He received a BFA from Purchase College, State University of New York in 2001. Dorland is the recipient of numerous awards including The Scope Emerging Artist Award, and his work is in collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art.
By referencing imagery from large scale public architectural projects, some of which never progressed beyond initial planning stages, Dorland’s work calls attention to the contradiction and obsolescence that can often follow grandiose quests for progress.
