Matthew Brannon was born in 1971 in St. Maries, Idaho. He has had recent solo exhibitions at the former Whitney branch at Altria entitled Where Were We (2007) and Try and Be Grateful at the Art Gallery of York University, Toronto (2007). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Whitney Biennial 2008 and Uncertain States of America: American Art in the 3rd Millenium, which has traveled extensively to venues including Serpentine Gallery, London and the Astrup Fearnly Museum of Modern Art, Oslo. He received a BFA from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MFA from Columbia University. He lives and works in New York.
