Phoebe Washburn was born in 1973 in Poughkeepsie and received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2002. She has had solo exhibitions at Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and Rice University Art Gallery, Houston. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the former Whitney branch Altria, New York; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; Kunsthalle St Gallen, Switzerland; PS1, Long Island City; and Weatherspoon Art Gallery, Greensboro, North Carolina. Washburn, who lives and works in New York, is also included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
