American conceptual artist Mel Bochner was born in Pittsburgh in 1940. He studied painting at Carnegie Institute of Technology and received a BFA in 1962. His work has been exhibited internationally and he has been the subject of over one hundred solo exhibitions. He has also been included in several Whitney Biennials, most recently in 2004. Bochner’s work is in major collections including those of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
